4 reviews for Cub Cadet ZTS1 42 | 42-in
I have had many riding, and push mower, lawn vacs, edgers, etc over the years. My yard is only about 1/3 acre and fairly flat. However, over past 30 years my wife has created a maze of obstacles, trees, flower beds, shrubs, sheds… Used to take me approx two hrs to mow, edge and rake the yard. I used a rider, edger, and a self-drive push mower each time I did my yard. This ZTS1 is best mower ever owned. All I need to do my yard now is this mower. The grass catcher vacuum power is awesome.
I have a pond and yard with lots of slopes and wetland. My old mower constantly got stuck but so far I’ve had no problems with the Cubcadet. It handles tuff and wet terrain really well. The steering wheel is connected to the front wheels and rear transmissions. This prevents the common problem with zero turn mowers trying to go into the pond when one side loses traction. Still turns on a dime and steering wheel turns easily even with everything connected to it. Only complaint is when you go really fast, the ride gets bumpy.
I ordered this on line about a week ago. I noticed autofill added the wrong phone number so the next day I called up the dealer that was going to deliver it and let them know about the phone number and to give them the correct number. they call me back about 2hr later and ask if the could deliver it because they were going to deliver another mower close to me , I said yes. So I ordered it and they delivered it the next day. what more can you ask for. the guy was unloading the mower. now this thing is on the trailer. He starts it up and backs up a little bid and just spins it around on the trailer then drives it off. I have been using it now it’s just a really great mower. I also have XT2 42 which is a very good mower. but that ZTS1 42 is just over the top . the only thing I can say bad about it is it should have came with the hour meter. Not too much of a problem I just bought the hour meter kit and put it on my self. about the gas gauge I don’t see why you need one you can just look at the gas tank and see how much gas you have . Hands down this is the mower . love the steering wheel because you have more control over the mower not drifting in the front on hills
I have found that this mower fits all of my residential needs. I have a ~1.5 acre mowing area and this has reduced my cutting time significantly. The Kohler 22 HP engine has plenty of get up and go. My old mower, a standard lawn tractor of the same deck width & 3 less HP, would cut both my front and back lawns in about 56 minutes. This z-turn with the added speed and agility cuts both sections in about 33 minutes total. It was absolutely mind blowing how fast and clean the cuts with this machine are. I have read and watched many reviews of the Cub Cadet mowers and many people have complained about the deck rattling too much. I have not found this to be noticeable at all. Others have assumed that the open style frame with the uncovered tires could leave you with damp arms from over spray if cutting in the rain. This was not my experience during a rainy cut. It has run flawlessly. The only hesitation worth mentioning is the seat suspension. My yard is a little bumpy and I find myself slowing down quite a bit so as not to shake my back up. My recommendation is that if you have a bumpy lawn, look into seat suspension kits. While my lawn is bumpy, it is not necessarily hilly. My understanding is that for properties with steep sloping embankments, you are best off with this steering wheel style of z-turn as opposed to the more common lap-bar steering. The controllability is more akin to a traditional lawn tractor, whereas a lap-bar style of steering struggles in this environment. If you are considering one of the new Cub Cadet zero turn mowers, I can say that my experience has been very positive and I highly recommend it.
